About
English abolitionist who was a leader in the efforts to ban slave trade in the British Empire. He is a founding member of the Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade. Thanks to his, and his colleagues efforts, the Slave Trade Act of 1807 was passed, effectively ending British trade in slaves.
Before Fame
He began studying at St. John's College at the University of Cambridge in 1779.
Trivia
After graduating from university, he aimed to enter the Anglican ministry and even became an ordained deacon. In 1785, he entered a Latin essay competition which surrounded the topic of slavery. After doing much research on the horrors of slavery, he found it his calling to be an abolitionist.
Family Life
He married his wife Catherine in 1796 and they had one son together.

After winning the Latin essay competition, he was introduced to many other influential abolitionists such as Granville Sharp.
