English actress who is known for her 70-year career on stage, television, and film. She starred as Beryl on the BBC sitcom Gimme Gimme Gimme, and appeared in the 1959 film Carry On Nurse, the 1963 film Tom Jones, and the 2015 film The Lady in the Van. 

Before Fame

She studied at The Old Vic theater for 2 years. She later found work as a stage manager. 

Trivia

She played a lady-in-waiting in the 1955 Shakespearean drama Richard III with Sir Laurence Olivier. She appeared in the popular 2002 film About a Boy.

Family Life

She and her husband, Michael Elliott, had two daughters named Marianne and Susannah.
