He wrote for Jester, a humorous college publication, during his time at Columbia University.

He was the child of Rebecca and Sigmund Lax and was born in the town of Olean, New York.

Associated With

He had a long literary correspondence with lifetime friend and Columbia University classmate Thomas Merton. Merton was a Trappist monk, author, and philosopher.
