She attended the University of Southern California, and did a year in the pop program before quitting to focus full-time on her own music.

She posted a photo of her mother to her Instagram account in May 2017. Her father had a studio called Mission Sound. She has dated Amandla Stenberg. Since early 2019, she had been dating Quinn Wilson, the creative director of musician Lizzo. They split in Fall 2023.
