Matt Dee

About

Activist who became famous for appearing in the reality series Bondi Rescue. He was a professional lifeguard patrolling Bondi Beach in Sydney. He is also known for raising awareness and understanding about severe mental illness. He has worked closely with Suicide Prevention Australia for many years.

Before Fame

He learned how to surf as a child, while on family vacations. He moved to Sydney at age 16.

Trivia

He served as an ambassador for the Schizophrenia Research Institute. He founded the FTW movement, which stands for For Those Without, to further raise awareness for those lost to mental illness.

Family Life

In 2009, he lost his older brother Jonathan, who had bipolar disorder.  His younger sister, Rachel Bridger Dee, died later that year. She had been living with schizophrenia for about a decade.
