Before Fame

He was celebrated by the time he was 11, especially for his performance of Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 85, and his subsequent concert tour of Germany.

His studies in Paris were augmented with a job demonstrating Duport pianos.

Family Life

His father Johann Gottfried Schuncke was his first teacher. His uncle Johann Michael Schuncke and his father were professional horn players.

Associated With

He resided next to Robert Schumann while living in Leipzig, and the two became fast friends.
