Juan Atkins

About

American DJ who is widely credited as being the originator of Detroit Techno. He has been a member of a number of influential groups, including Infinite, and founded the Metroplex record label in 1985.

Before Fame

He grew up playing drums, bass and guitar. He was first exposed to electronic music at age sixteen.

Trivia

He was one of the subjects of the 2006 techno music documentary High Tech Soul.

Family Life

His father was a concert promoter.

He and Derrick formed the techno duo Deep Space.
