John Hale

About

Puritan pastor who was a prominent figure in the Salem witch trials of the late seventeenth century. His posthumous book, A Modest Enquiry Into the Nature of Witchcraft, showed that he changed his mind about the trials later in life. 

Before Fame

Before becoming a preacher in Beverly, Massachusetts, he attended Harvard University. 

Trivia

It is believed that he changed his mind about the witch trials when his own wife was accused of being a witch.

Family Life

He was married to Rebecca Byles until she passed in 1683. He then married his second wife Sarah Noyes.

Associated With

He is a character in the famous Arthur Miller play The Crucible.
