Remembered as an illustrator for such pulp science fiction magazines as Amazing Stories, Planet Stories, and Wonder Stories, this Austrian-born artist also worked on Marvel Comics' 1939 debut issue.

Before Fame

After taking art classes in France, the United States, and his native Austria, he was hired to create technical illustrations for an American science publication called The Electrical Experimenter.

Trivia

He created some of the earliest images of Unidentified Flying Objects (U.F.O.s) and space stations, likely fueling the imaginations of such science fiction writers as Arthur C. Clarke and Ray Bradbury.

Family Life

A native of Vienna, Austria, he later settled in Teaneck, New Jersey, U.S.A.

He is perhaps best remembered for his August, 1927 Amazing Stories magazine cover, which featured an illustration representing author H.G. Wells' famous science fiction work, The War of the Worlds.
