Canadian-American children's author and photographer most widely remembered for her 1957 New York Times Best Seller The Lonely Doll. The book was named by The Guardian as one of the 10 Best Illustrated Children's Books of All Time in 20110.

Before Fame

She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to New York city in her 20's.

Trivia

Her only book written for adults, Ocracoke in The Fifties, as well as another children's book, Make Me Real, were released after her death.

Family Life

She is the daughter of portrait artist Edith Stevenson Wright and theatre critic Ivan Wright. Her brother Blaine passed away in 1985.
