Bella-Kotchap began his youth international career with the Germany under-18 team. He also played football with Rot Weiss Ahlen, the club that gave Marco Reus his start in the game, at the age of four.

He was born in Paris, France, but has German citizenship, and is the son of former Cameroon international Cyrille Florent Bella, who is Cameroonian.
