He was a student at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music where he was trained by Erno Dohnanyi.

Trivia

He was dubbed the Commandeur du Mérite Artistique et Culturel in 1968 by France in honor of his mastery of Claude Debussy.

Family Life

He began his piano studies with his mother Valerie Ipolye.

Associated With

His vast repertoire leaned heavily on the works of Bela Bartok, and he handled the New York premiere of the composer's Second Piano Concerto in 1947 at Carnegie Hall.
