Alexandra of Denmark

Queen of the United Kingdom and the British Dominions, and Empress of India, from 22 January 1901 to 6 May 1910. She was the wife of Edward VII, who was the son of Queen Victoria. During her reign, she had an impact on women's fashion and was known as a lively and social person. She died of a heart attack in 1925.

Before Fame

Her family rose in rank after her father was chosen to be king of Denmark, in place of his second cousin who had been in line for the throne. Following this rise in status, she was promised to be the future wife of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (Edward VII). She became queen-empress when her husband took the throne following Queen Victoria's death in 1901.

Trivia

She was the longest holder of the title the Princess of Wales from 1863 to 1901. She passed away at the age of 80.

Family Life

Her father was Christian IX of Denmark and her mother was Louise of Hesse-Kassel. She had 3 brothers and two sisters. She married Edward VII in 1863. The couple had 6 children together including George V. She had son Alexander, Crown Prince of Yugoslavia with King Peter II.

It is said that Hans Christian Andersen was called to her family home as a child to tell her and her siblings bedtime stories.
