In March 2014, he released the lead single "Faded" off his The Nightday EP. It peaked at #1 on the Billboard US Dance chart. The song was also nominated for the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

His real name is Steven Zhu. He was born and raised in San Francisco, California, but is also of Chinese descent.
