Yuri Shvets

About

Former Soviet intelligence officer of Ukrainian origin who was a major in the KGB between 1980 and 1990. From April of 1985 to the year 1987, he was a resident spy in Washington, D.C.

Before Fame

He graduated with a international law degree from Patrice Lumumba Peoples' Friendship University. He also graduated from the Academy of Foreign Intelligence, where he studied alongside Vladimir Putin.

Trivia

He is the author of the book, "Washington Station: My Life as a KGB Spy in America." One of his most viewed videos on YouTube (with over 2.7 million views) is called, "Secret flight from the Kremlin to Washington / The aggressor suffers heavy losses / Economic hell in the Russian Federation / No. 159."

Family Life

He was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

It was reported that he recruited two key sources of political intelligence whom he referred to as "Sputnitsa," a journalist working in Washington, and "Socrates," a former aide to President Jimmy Carter with strong ties to Greece.
