Played the role of Father Mulcahy, the camp's spiritual advisor, on the 1970s television series, M*A*S*H. He also had a recurring role on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C..

Before Fame

He was in some Broadway and Off Broadway productions, before deciding to move to Los Angeles and pursue more acting.

Trivia

Although his role was first conceived as infrequent, his strong performance convinced the producers of M*A*S*H to give him a regular spot.

Family Life

He had two sons with his wife, Barbara, whom he met on a blind date.
