Known best as the United States' nineteenth Surgeon General, this prominent physician is also famous for co-founding the Doctors of America organization and for working for both Harvard Medical School and Boston's Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Before Fame

After completing his honors bachelor's degree in biochemistry from Harvard University, he earned both his MD and his MBA (in healthcare management) from Yale University.

Trivia

He chaired a clinical trial quality-improvement organization known as TrialNetworks and founded and headed an HIV education program called VISIONS.

Family Life

Born in England to Indian parents, he was raised in Miami, Florida, U.S.A. from the age of three.
