Vint Cerf

About

Telecommunications pioneer who is widely regarded as one of the "fathers of the internet" along with Donald Davies and Bob Kahn. He was elected as the President of the Association for Computing Machinery in May 2012 and has earned many prestigious honors, including the National Medal of Technology and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Before Fame

He was born in New Haven, Connecticut and worked at IBM after earning a B.S. Degree in Mathematics from Stanford University. He earned his PhD from UCLA in 1972 and began working for DARPA in 1976.

Trivia

While working for MCI Communications, he helped to develop the first-ever commercial e-mail system connected to the internet, MCI Mail.

Family Life

He married a woman named Sigrid and has sons named David and Bennett.

He was appointed to the National Science Board by President Barack Obama in 2013.
