He played 9/11 victim Mark Bingham in the A&E TV movie Flight 93. He appeared in War for the Planet of the Apes in 2017.

He married Leanna Nash; they had two daughters before divorcing in 2012. He was engaged to Supernatural costar DJ Qualls in May 2024.
