Tom Pocock

About

Notable as a journalist for the Daily Express, the Evening Standard, the Daily Mail, and The Times, he is also known for his historical works and biographies of prominent sailors and ship captains. His full-length publications include Captain Marryat, The Terror Before Trafalgar, and Sailor King: The Life of King William IV.

Before Fame

Following his brief World War II-era service in the Royal Navy, Pocock began his journalism career at the age of nineteen and was one of the first media representatives on hand at the liberation of the Bergen-Belsen Nazi concentration camp.

Trivia

He was the 2004 recipient of the prestigious Mountbatten Maritime Prize.

Family Life

The son of writer Guy Pocock, he spent his childhood in London, England. His marriage to Penny Casson resulted in two daughters.
