He and his brother were in a band called Suicidal Tendencies in high school.

Trivia

He won a grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his work on the track "These Walls" from To Pimp a Butterfly. In 2021, he won a Grammy for Best Progressive R&B Album for his album It Is What It Is. 

Family Life

He was born Stephen Bruner from South Central Los Angeles. His father was the drummer for Diana Ross and the Temptations.
