Thomas Love Peacock

About

An early nineteenth-century English author, he is best remembered for such satirical novels as Nightmare Abbey and Crotchet Castle. Also a poet, he published nearly a dozen verse works, including The Monks of St. Mark and The War-Song of Dinas Vawr.

Before Fame

He wrote his first poem around the age of ten and was pulled from formal schooling at the age of thirteen.

Trivia

He worked for the East India Company.

Family Life

He was married to Jane Griffith; the couple had three daughters and one son.

He and Percy Bysshe Shelley were literary contemporaries and close friends.
