Subani Moktan

About

Nepali singer-songwriter and playback singer, known for her early success in the music industry, in part thanks to having two folk musicians as parents. She posts her music to Instagram under the handle subanimoktan and has over 160,000 followers on the platform.

Before Fame

She started learning the piano when she was 6 years old, and won her first award in the Bal Mandir All Nepal Singing Competition when she was 7. She recorded her first song at Radio Nepal as an award for winning the competition. At 14, she took up the guitar and started collaborating with artists like Nirnaya da NSK and Khem Gurung. At 16, she won the Hits FM Music Award for Best New Artist. 

Trivia

After the release of her 2nd album, she was awarded the HITS FM Music Award for "Best Pop Vocal performance Female". In 2010 she was nominated at the HITS FM Music Awards for "Best Rock Artist" and "Best Rock Composition". She continues to write and record her own songs along with collaborating with other artists. She also works as a playback singer for movies and is a teacher at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory.

Family Life

Her parents are famous folk singers, Kunti Moktan and Shila Bahadur Moktan. Her sister, Shital, is also a musician. She is married to Sujan Shrestha
