He studied music at the Tandem Friends School.

Trivia

He was accepted into the jazz program at Virginia Commonwealth University, but he left after only six weeks to play full-time with the Dave Matthews Band.

Family Life

His two marriages produced a son named Elijah and daughters named Hazel Bailey and Flora Jude.
