Sigurd Rascher

Classical saxophone pioneer who had more than twenty major compositions created for him, including Ballade for Alto Saxophone, String Orchestra, Piano and Tympani by Frank Martin.

Before Fame

He studied clarinet at Hochschule für Musik and moved to Berlin where he played in the Philharmonic there.

Trivia

He made his debut in the United States with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Family Life

He was married to a Swedish woman named Ann Mari who he lived with in New York for almost sixty years.
