Sarah Good

About

Remembered for falling victim to the rampant witchcraft accusations that preceded the infamous Salem Witch Trials of 1692, this Massachusetts Bay Colony resident was hanged for her alleged crimes.

Before Fame

She was one of three women -- the others being Sarah Osborne and a servant named Tituba -- who belonged to the initial group accused of witchcraft by teenagers Abigail Williams and Betty Parris.

Trivia

Poverty-stricken and homeless at the end of her life and notoriously disagreeable to and feared by fellow Salem residents, she was, sadly, an easy target for accusations of witchcraft.

Family Life

The daughter of Elizabeth and John Solart, she was raised in the town of Wenham, Massachusetts. Following the death of her first husband, Daniel Poole, she married William Good and bore daughters named Dorothy and Mercy.

Associated With

She and Rebecca Nurse were both victims of the Salem Witch Trials. Both are also characters in Arthur Miller's 1953 play The Crucible.
