Connecticut woman who owned a chimpanzee that went on a violent rampage in February 2009. Her 200-pound domesticated chimp Travis mauled Charla Nash's face, leaving her clinging to life.

She and her husband purchased Travis for $50,000 from a breeder.  

Trivia

In December 2009, Connecticut state prosecutors decided not to hold her criminally responsible for the attack. A $50 million civil suit filed by Charla Nash's family was still pending at the time of her death.

Family Life

Her husband, Jerome Herold, died from cancer in 2004. Her only child, a daughter, died in a car accident in 2000.
