TV's Gidget, she won several Best Actress Oscars and portrayed Mary Todd Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln. After Gidget received positive ratings during summer reruns, she portrayed Sister Bertrille in The Flying Nun from 1967 to 1970.

Before Fame

She was a Birmingham High School cheerleader in Van Nuys, California before starring as Gidget in 1965.

Trivia

She became a dedicated women's rights advocate and supported Hillary Clinton in her 2008 presidential campaign.

Family Life

She married Steven Craig in 1968, and the pair had two sons, novelist Peter Craig and screenwriter Eli Craig, before divorcing in 1975. She married producer Alan Greisman in 1984, and they had a son named Sam before divorcing in 1993.

Associated With

She was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance for starring in the 1994 film Forrest Gump, which starred Tom Hanks.
