American tattoo artist who was nicknamed "Sailor Jerry" because of his history of tattooing sailors and established a brand of clothing and liquor under the name Sailor Jerry Ltd.

Before Fame

He learned tattooing as a child from different tattoo artists while traveling the country and he practiced on drunks from skid row that would come into the tattoo parlors.

Trivia

He also played saxophone in his own dance band for a number of years.
