Rosalie Rock

About

Social worker, author and teacher known for being the mother of comedian Chris Rock. She is the founder of Rock This 619, a non-profit youth empowerment organization. She also hosts a weekly radio show called The Mom Show which broadcasts in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Before Fame

She started working as a teacher to help her parents and get her out of Jim Crow South Carolina. For 17 years she taught and operated a preschool and daycare center. She later published the book Mama Rock's Rules: Ten Lessons for Raising a Household of Successful Children, based on her experience raising her kids and caring for 17 foster children.

Trivia

She spoke out about Will Smith slapping her son by saying that it was as good as slapping her and that Chris was robbed of his opportunity to present the speech prepared for Questlove's Academy Award. Her interview prompted a direct apology from Smith. 

Family Life

Her husband was Julius Rock, Chris's father. He died in 1988 after receiving surgery for an ulcer. Her son is comedian Chris Rock. Other children include Tony, Andi, Andre, Jordan, Brian and Kenny. 

Associated With

Her son created and narrated the series Everybody Hates Chris, which starred Tyler James Williams.
