Before Fame

He attended The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and acted in a London play in his younger years then ventured off into the field of broadcasting.

Trivia

He also wrote a musical named Cafe Puccini in which he teamed up with the musical director, William Blezard in 1986 to open at the Wyndham Theater.

Family Life

He married Susan Stranks in 1960 and worked in children's programming; the couple later had a son named Rupert.

He and Albert Finney both attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.
