Robert Zuppke

About

Revered football coach who coached at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1913 to 1941, winning four National Championships during that span. He also led Muskegon High School to back-to-back state titles in 1911 and 1912.

Before Fame

He was born in Berlin, Germany and began his coaching career with Hackley Manual Training in 1906.

Trivia

He was also a talented painter who specialized in depictions of the American Southwest.

Family Life

His wife died in 1936 at sixty-three years old.

Associated With

He coached Red Grange, who became one of the most celebrated college football players of his day, at the University of Illinois.
