Robert S. Mulliken

About

An American physicist who won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1966 for developing molecular orbital theory. He was the youngest person to belong to the National Academy of Sciences when he became a member in 1936.

Before Fame

He received a scholarship to study chemistry at MIT in 1913.

Trivia

The Mulliken population analysis, a method of assigning charges to atoms in a molecule, was named after him.

Family Life

He had two daughters with his wife Mary Helen von Noe after marrying 1929.

He worked with Max Born in the mid 20's when he traveled to Europe.
