Robert Calvert

About

A South African-born author, dramatist, poet, songwriter, and musician of the late 20th Century, he is best known for such albums as Lucky Leif and the Longships (1975) and Hype (1981). His literary works include Test-Tube Baby of Mine (a 1986 play) and Celsius 232 (a 1977 poetry collection).

Before Fame

His childhood wish was to become a fighter pilot, but an inner ear defect forced him to focus on writing, instead.

Trivia

He performed with the British band, Hawkwind, during the 1970s and co-wrote the group's chart-topping single, "Silver Machine."

Family Life

He was born in South Africa but moved to England with his parents when he was two years old.
