He has amassed more than 3.9 million followers on his chemteacherphil account.

In 2019, he filmed his first TikTok on a whim. He was demonstrating an experiment for his chemistry class at Culver Academies in Indiana, when a student suggested he record it and post it online.

He records many of the videos in his lab. His students are often featured in his videos. In 2021, he partnered with Benefit cosmetics to explain how the company's magnetic mascara works. He also partnered with Volkswagen to explain the science behind an electric car.
