He performed in public for the first time when he was 16, followed by his debut with the Czech Philharmonic two years later.

He was awarded the Wiener Flötenuhr twice, in 1971 and 1982.

Family Life

He was born the son of piano virtuoso and teacher Ilona Štěpánová-Kurzová and musicologist and pianist Václav Štěpán. He was also the grandson of famed piano teacher Professor Vilém Kurz.

Associated With

He was a master of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's piano concertos and released several recordings devoted to them.
