About

Painter who co-founded the Cultural Association of the German Democratic Republic in 1945. He published and edited satirical magazine Eulenspiegel.

He objected to the First World War and went to prison for refusing military service.

Trivia

He joined the Communist Party of Germany in 1920. In 1924, he became a member of the Red Group and traveled to the Soviet Union with a group of young artists.
