Before Fame

He came in first at the 1987 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, which opened the door for him to debut at Carnegie Hall soon after.

Trivia

He gave the world premiere of Piano Concerto No. 5 by Rodion Shchedrin, who dedicated the piece to him.

Family Life

His family recognized his talents early on, and he began taking harpsichord and piano lessons at age five.

He served as pianist on numerous recordings, including the 1987/1988 Philips Records release of Igor Stravinsky's violin and piano works.
