Oleg Antonov

About

Russian aircraft engineer who started one of the the world's best known plane manufacturers, which he named after himself. He was known for designing some of the Soviet Union's most popular airplanes.

Before Fame

Growing up near a military airfield, he often used to scavenge the grounds there for broken parts.

Trivia

He created 22 different airplane models, which became some of the world's largest and strongest planes.

Family Life

He was born into a middle class family, which he had to hide later to get into the school of his choice.

Associated With

He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the highest award bestowed by the USSR. Yuri Gagarin was another famous recipient of that honor.
