American literary agent and Soviet Union Spy who was based in New York City during the 1930s and 1940s and fled to Mexico and Poland in 1950.

Before Fame

He left Germany to immigrate to New York City on the S. S. Pennsylvania with his family in 1907. Afterwards, he lived in the Bronx.

Trivia

After Alger Hiss was convicted in 1950, Lieber evaded U.S. intelligence and moved to Mexico. When agents pursued him there, he fled to Poland.

Family Life

He had three wives throughout his life: Irma Cohen, Sally Tannenbaum, and Minna Zelinka Lieber. He had three children as well.
