Maxi Gnauck

About

Former artistic gymnast who became the most successful female gymnast in Germany's history. She won gold in the uneven bars at the 1980 Olympic Games and was named East German Sportspersonality of the Year later that year.

She won her first gymnastic medals at age eight.

Trivia

She became the first German gymnast ever inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Family Life

Her parents, thinking they were going to have a boy, had prepared the name Max but changed it to Maxi once they discovered they were having a girl.
