Former MLB switch-hitting shortstop and 7-time All-Star who won three World Series Championships with the Los Angeles Dodgers; named National League MVP in 1962. He had a batting average of .281. He hit 20 home runs throughout his professional career. 

Before Fame

He was an All-City selection in baseball as a pitcher, football as a quarterback, and basketball as a guard at Cardozo Senior High School in Washington D.C.

Trivia

He is credited with reviving base stealing as part of baseball strategy. In 1962, he was awarded the Hickok Belt Award, which was given to the top professional athlete of the year in the United States for a brief period.

He dated actress Doris Day. He has a son named Bump.
