Before Fame

At the age of 14, she sang for Hugh Martin and Ralph Blane, which landed her a fifteen-minute radio show in Des Moines. 

Trivia

She appeared on The Tonight Show 76 times throughout her career. 

Family Life

As a child, her mother accompanied her on the piano. Her father was a pharmacist and owned a drug store.
