Before Fame

She struggled through tuberculosis as a child. Her musical career started in coffee shops, where she would play folk songs.

Trivia

She co-wrote "Sister Morphine" for the Rolling Stones album Sticky Fingers. In 2009, she won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Women's World Awards. 

Family Life

She married John Dunbar in 1965; after their divorce a year later, she married Ben Brierly in 1979 and then married Giorgio Della Terza in 1988.
