Maria Grever

About

Composer known for being one of the first successful Mexican female composers in history. She is perhaps most famous for the song "What A Difference A Day Makes," which earned her a Grammy and was eventually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. She studied with legendary composer Claude Debussy.

She grew up in Mexico City before moving to France to study music.

Trivia

Decades after her death, her music has been used in popular films like Casino and Run Lola Run. Google celebrated her in February of 2021 with a Google Doodle. 

Family Life

She married oil executive Leo A. Grever in 1907.

She is famous for songs like "Magic Is the Moonlight," which was written for the 1944 film Bathing Beauty, starring Esther Williams.
