Margaret Leech

About

Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian of the Twentieth Century. She is known for Reveille in Washington, 1860-1865, an historical work that discusses Civil War-era Washington, D.C. Her novels include Tin Wedding and The Back of the Book.

Before Fame

She worked during World War I for the American Committee for Devastated France, among other charitable organizations.

Trivia

She was friendly with such members of the Algonquin Round Table as Dorothy Parker and Alexander Woollcott.

Family Life

She married New York World publisher Ralph Pulitzer. Her father-in-law, Joseph Pulitzer, was the founder of the Pulitzer Prize.

Associated With

She won her second Pulitzer Prize in 1960 for her biography of President William McKinley.
