Before Fame

She began her entertainment career as a model. She appeared in her debut film -- a horror movie titled Taste the Blood of Dracula -- in 1969.

Early in her career, she was the subject of a J. Edward Oliver comic strip titled "The Life and Habits of the Madeline Smith." Her small-screen credits include the short-lived ITV series Doctor at Large and the BBC2 show The End of the Pier Show; her theatrical roles include Felicity Rumpers in Habeas Corpus (in a London West End production with Alan Bennett) and Elma in Canaries Sometimes Sing (at the Cambridge Theatre Company).

Family Life

Her marriage to fellow television actor David Buck resulted in a daughter named Emily and ended with Buck's 1989 death from cancer.
