British-based musician whose skills were held in high esteem by many legendary composers. He was known for his mastery of Chopin and Liszt.

Before Fame

He studied music at Budapest's Royal Academy of Music from 1911 until 1922. His teachers included such notables as Hans Koessler, Zoltán Kodály, and Leo Weiner.

Trivia

He was asked by Béla Bartók to be the soloist for the 1933 Hungarian premiere of the composer's Piano Concerto No. 2, with Otto Klemperer directing.

Family Life

His second wife's brother-in-law was famed violinist Yehudi Menuhin.

His interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier was broadcast over the radio.
