British Speaker of the House of Commons since 2019 and Member of Parliament representing Chorley since 1997. He was a well recognized Labour Party member until he gave up his party membership in 2019.

Before Fame

He attended the Lords College in Bolton before starting his own textile and screen printing business.

Trivia

Shortly before being elected as Speaker in 2019 he announced he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.

Family Life

His wife Catherine Swindley went on to succeed him as Labour Councillor for Adlington in May 1998, a position he had held for 18 years prior.

Associated With

He accompanied Boris Johnson and Priti Patel at the funeral of fellow MP David Amess in 2021.
