Though she was born in New York, she grew up in rural Colorado. She studied at Southern Oregon University and graduated with a BFA in theater.

She is also a martial artist who has practiced multiple disciplines including kickboxing, capoeira, and Filipino stick and sword fighting.

She and her husband Patrick Sanbongui are the parents of Bodhi Sabongui.
